When Mounjaro 15mg is appropriate
After tolerating 12.5mg. Not all patients reach this dose — many do not need to. Your prescriber will only recommend 15mg if there is a clear continued clinical benefit and your side-effect burden remains acceptable.
What to expect at 15mg
The highest level of appetite suppression. Gastrointestinal side effects are most common at this dose. Long-term maintenance at 15mg is appropriate for some patients but not the default.
Dose decisions are made by your prescriber.
New patients start at 2.5 mg and escalate in 2.5 mg steps every four weeks at the earliest, based on response and tolerability. Switching from another pharmacy or clinic? Your prescriber can continue you at your current dose — no forced restart.
Side-effect profile at this dose
Mounjaro's side-effect profile is dose-dependent. Gastrointestinal effects (nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, reduced appetite) are most common during the first one to two weeks at any new dose and usually settle. Higher doses carry a higher risk of these effects. Serious effects — including acute pancreatitis, severe allergic reaction, and gallbladder problems — are uncommon but possible at every dose and require urgent medical advice.
