How it works
How does ordering weight loss treatment from Roots Pharmacy work?
1) Complete a short online medical consultation, about two to three minutes. 2) Choose your treatment and dose and check out. 3) A UK prescriber reviews your answers, usually the same day, and approves or declines. 4) If approved, your medicine is dispensed and sent by Royal Mail tracked delivery, usually arriving within 48 hours.
When am I charged?
Your card is authorised at checkout but only charged once a prescriber approves your consultation. If the prescriber decides treatment is not suitable, the hold is released and nothing is taken.
How long does approval take?
Most consultations are reviewed the same day. If the prescriber needs more information they will contact you by email.
Who checks my consultation?
A UK-registered Pharmacist Independent Prescriber (GPhC 2218767). A real clinician reads every consultation and makes the prescribing decision.
Eligibility and switching
Who can get weight loss injections or tablets online?
Adults with a BMI of 30 or over, or 27 or over with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea or high cholesterol. The consultation checks this, and the prescriber also screens for pregnancy and breastfeeding, a history of pancreatitis, certain thyroid cancers, eating disorders and other conditions where treatment may not be appropriate.
Can I switch to Roots Pharmacy from another provider?
Yes. Tell us your current treatment and dose in the consultation and the prescriber can continue you at that dose, with no restarting from the lowest dose and no gap between pens. You do not need to send anything from your previous pharmacy.
I've had a break from treatment. Do I need to restart at the lowest dose?
It depends how long the break was. After a short break the prescriber may continue your previous dose; after a longer break they will usually restart you at a lower dose to reduce side effects. You will be told which before anything is charged.
Doses and treatments
What is the Mounjaro dose schedule?
Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection. Treatment normally starts at 2.5mg for four weeks, then 5mg. The dose can then be increased in 2.5mg steps, no sooner than every four weeks, up to a maximum of 15mg. Your prescriber decides when to move up based on how you are getting on.
What is the Wegovy pen dose schedule?
Wegovy is a once-weekly injection that normally steps up every four weeks: 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg, then 2.4mg, which is the usual maintenance dose. Your prescriber can hold you at a dose for longer if you need it.
How do Wegovy tablets work?
Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, the same medicine as the Wegovy pen, taken as one tablet a day instead of a weekly injection. We stock the 1.5mg, 4mg and 9mg strengths. Take them exactly as described in the patient leaflet that comes in the pack.
What is the difference between Mounjaro and Wegovy?
Both are prescription weight loss medicines given as a weekly injection. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which acts on two appetite hormones (GIP and GLP-1). Wegovy contains semaglutide, which acts on one (GLP-1), and is also available as a daily tablet. The prescriber will recommend the option that suits your health and history.
What are the common side effects?
The most common are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and reduced appetite, usually mild and easing as your body adjusts, often after a dose increase. Seek urgent medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back. Side effects can be reported to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Delivery and storage
How is my treatment delivered?
By Royal Mail Tracked 48 in plain, unbranded packaging. You receive a tracking number by email as soon as it is dispatched. Weekly pens travel in insulated packaging with ice packs.
My pen wasn't cold when it arrived. Is it safe?
Usually, yes. The ice packs keep the pen cool in transit and it is normal for them to have softened by delivery. The manufacturers' leaflets allow the pens to be kept out of the fridge before first use, below 30 degrees, for up to 30 days (Mounjaro) or up to 28 days (Wegovy). Put it in the fridge when it arrives. If you are unsure, call us and a pharmacist will advise.
Does my order come with instructions?
Every medicine pack includes the manufacturer's patient information leaflet explaining how to use it, how to store it and possible side effects. Our pharmacy team is available by email or phone if you have questions.
Refills, refunds and support
How do I reorder each month?
We email you a reminder about three weeks into each pack. Reordering takes about two minutes through a short refill form, which also lets you ask to move up a dose. Refills are usually approved the same day.
What is the refund policy?
If the prescriber does not approve your consultation, nothing is charged. Once a prescription medicine has been dispensed it cannot be returned for safety reasons, unless it is faulty or was sent in error, in which case we will put it right.
